Mens A vs Ivybridge

Rescheduled from a rainy Monday, this was a very sunny and warm Thursday evening.

Dave and James against Ivybridge no 1 pair. James serving.

In the league we are second to Devonshire C. The gap is 8 points. With that in mind we went into the match watching to score enough to keep the pressure on. It started well for the pair of Tim and Steve. More than well, a perfect 6-0 6-0 against he weaker of the two Ivybridge pairs. On the other court Dave and James were facing much stiffer competition. They lost the first set but won the second. In the tie breaker they saved 4 match points before, finally, losing 14-12.

So at the half way stage we were winning, but not by much. Things picked up after that, both pairs easily won their second matches.

Final score a win by 62-18

Close win for Ladies

Another close win for the ladies. It was touch and go if they were going to play. Firstly because of the weather and secondly because there were only 3 available to play. One regular was at Wimbledon, one in Norway and one was down with Covid.

Huge thank you to Dylys who stood in at 2pm this afternoon to make up the team.

Excellent play from Debbie and Jane who came fighting back from 6-2 down in the final tie break to just loose at 10-8

Bad Day on Court

Whilst the rest of the world was voting, or celebrating independence or something, our mens B side were struggling against Plympton C. Score 16 – 72.

Close Result

Such a close result for the ladies tonight. It all came down to the final championship tie break to decide the winners.
Lots of long rallies, deuces, well returned lobs and tie breaks. Great play and effort from everyone.

Result : Plymstock 42 Tavistock D 51

Rescheduled St B Match Played

The match of Mens B vs St Budeaux, rained off on the 13th June, was finally played on the 27th June. It was a tough game. Two match tie breaks and one set tie break lost. Jack praised by the oponents for his tenacity.
Score Plymstock 26 : StBudeaux 69

Tim adds : A strong crosswind added to the challenge of playing tough opponents. Well played all.

Ladies Win at Tavistock

Tavistock C 38 : Plymstock 45

Great first set win for Debbie and Vicky. Their tie break was close.

This somewhat avenges the only defeat so far, which was in the first match at home to Tavistock. Since then there has been a series of wins, albeit only by a few points. The end result is, so far, a mid-table position.

Mens A Defeat

Mens A suffered their first defeat in week 6 – 18th June – against a very strong and much changed Devonshire side. Much changed that is compared to when we played away. Very strong first pair which, I’m told, included top division players. A tough night but, with 34 out of 36 points won against the second pairing, we only dropped 13 points on our neareat rivals 37-50, so still all to play for.

Spot the slight arithmetic error.
