The Return of Our Mens B Team

A few years ago all our first mens team players left or were injured and so the B team became the A team and we could only reliably field one mens team. Our numbers have now recovered enough such that, this season, we are again fielding two mens teams in the Plymouth and District league. The first match was away to Plympton C. The scores was Plympton 57 – Plymstock 37, shame to lose, but that’s sport.

Mens A home to Tavistock C

Mens A keep up winning ways with a 62 – 28 win over Tavistock C at home. Mark and Dave got off to a slow start but made up for it in the second match. Chris and James started well and got better.

Score Plymstock 62 Tavistock 28

Ladies vs Tavistock C

There are two Tavistock teams in this division, C and D. The ladies started their campaign against the harder opponents. Score 25 – 64 in favour of Tavistock.

Ladies vs Tavistock

A busy weekend for the ladies, playing on both Saturday and Sunday. Winning both !

This time it was a 48 – 41 win away to Tavistock D

Ladies vs Looe B

This match was rearranged due to much of Plymstocks team having tickets for a Take That concert on the original date. Weather was wonderful for this weekend – first nice spell after a miserable spring. Score -Plymstock : 47, Looe B : 35

Great Start to Mens A Season

Mens A team started with a win away to Devonshire C. Two matches went to the third set meaning that the fixture continued into darkness. James S and Dave had to finish their second match indoors.

Summer 2024

British Summer Time is here again and we have a summer schedule. The main change is that the Wednesday club session will start at 6pm.

Other things to note is that league matches happen on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, although the teams will be playing away half the time, and that mens practice will, matches permitting, happen on Thursday evenings.

About Me :

I have been a member of Plymstock LTC for around 5 years now and got back into tennis after playing at school and joined the clubs Rusty Racket Program.
I currently work part time for Devon & Cornwall Police but was previously with Lloyds Bank for 35 years.
Safeguarding is an important role and as I have previously worked as a Teaching Assistant, hope this position will enable me to build on the clubs comprehensive policies in place to protect and support all of our club members.

Preseason Friendly vs Plymouth University

Plymouth University second team contacted Plymstock because they needed some match practice. We were happy to oblige and quickly found out we had enough interest that our two courts would not be enough.

The venue we chose was Central Park which has perfectly adequate courts. Both men and ladies were available from both squads so we could have played mixed doubles. We decided however to play single sex doubles (*) as this would be more suitable for practising for the league matches in the coming season.

* Mostly single sex, on the University mens side was Amelie (hope I’m spelling that right) ably standing in for a man who failed to show.

The weather was good by recent standards. Which is to say that it only rained a bit.

We played all afternoon, through some rain as mentioned, and vaguely kept track of some of the scores. I think, approximately, the men slightly edged their matches for Plymstock and the ladies slightly edged their matches for the University. We’ll call it a draw.

If anyone feels there are too many pictures of the ladies and not enough of the men that is because your humble correspondant and photographer was also playing in the mens side and this complicates things.

Behind Nicky you can just make out Chris and Mark.
